Penny Maddison was born in 1949 in Kuching, Sarawak. Later the family moved to Darlington in Western Australia where she was educated. She qualified from a five year night school Diploma course in Interior Design while working as a tracer and draughtswoman in various Architectural and engineering offices around Perth.
She travelled overseas, working in London as an Interior Designer and travelling in Europe. Later she travelled to South Africa. Here she married and had four daughters while earning a living as a wildlife artist. Returning to Western Australia after 30 odd years she built her rammed earth studio in Gooseberry Hill.
Fully committed to Watercolour she has been an active member of The Watercolour Society of W.A. She has taught Watercolour and has held many workshops and demonstrations and has exhibited and sold regularly.
Her favourite subjects are still animals and birds but she also paints portraits, landscapes, architectural subjects, and still lifes and is adding abstract paintings to her portfolio after years of experiments in her studio and the realization that abstract rhythms are just as beautiful as natural ones.
